Hello. I am the mother of two. I live in Gallipolis, Ohio. I am trying to come up with ways to make some money to pay my rent. I recently started a new job. It is with a home health agency. I had to take a week and two days of trainning which was unpaid. I also have to work 15 unpaid clinical hours. My boss just called today and gave me three hours every Tuesday. That is all she has at this time. I will have to work a month unpaid just to get my trainning in. Then, they will hold back a weeks pay. The hours are just part time after that. The pay is only $6.85 an hour. I go back to school August 27. I am majoring in psychology. I only have about 3 semesters left. I lost a child in March 2004 and I want to get my degree and help people who have been through that. If anyone would like to talk who has had or lost a child who was born premature please feel free to contact me. My e-mail is mommyofchassidy@yahoo.com. At this time, I am behind on my bills. I owe $480 for June and $560 for July. All of my information can be verified. I am needing to sell my car cheap to make a payment. It is a white 1987 Ford Tarus. It has 110,600 miles. It has a crack in the windshield and needs a battery or alternator. There is also a powere steeering leak. I need $400 out of it to pay my rent. It does not run at this time so someone would have to pick it up. Please help if you can by passing this along. I am new here and not real sure how this site works. I would appreciate prayers as well. If interested in the car or helping e-mail me and I will give my address and phone number. Thank you.

Dear Mommyofchassidy: The federal government makes funds available for emergency housing needs. I am not sure of the flow chart of how funds are channeled but the end result is non profits that apply for the funding called Emergency Shelter and Food Program grants can and do use these funds to assist with rent, utilities and or food at their discretion. The link to find which if any organizations have received grants in your area was found by Soulight and is posted below. It takes a long time to load but be patient. When the page comes up, you will see a section to find funded organizations which you can search by zip code. Hopefully this will help. Blessings, Elaine

Please don't get me wrong, I know you are doing the best you can, but my first initial instinct is to put my foot in my mouth! LOL! Seriously though,I had no idea the programs were so vastly different. Another option you might want to try is apply for social services- if you haven't done so already. Not only can they assist with rent, food, and medical expenses until you get on your feet, they can also pay for day care if you need it, as well as provide bus tokens or passes for public transportation so you can get to/from work. TANF ( temporary assistance to needy families) does give you the necessary funds you need ( I know it's not much, but it's something) to survive while you are in school. Check into them at the county social services agency where you live. Another thing, if you get medicaid, you can also get a discount on your phone service (LIFELINE)- call your phone service about this. I don't understand how the agency you work for expects you to survive on NOTHING while you are waiting for this certification, much less wait by the phone for their call until you are certified. 211 does have listings of all the local food pantries and churches in your area as well. Also with school starting in the next few months, check with them for school clothes and supplies for the kids if you need them. The united way, catholic charities, st vincent de paul - all of these agencies should be of some help.

Thank you for your advice. I hope I am putting this message in the right place. I have worked at a nursing home. I recieved my CNA in 2002. I worked at a nursing home for 3 months. I kept getting mandated and I had a young daughter at home. I got laid off and started at Infocision. The pay was the best for this area there and I really liked it. I wanted to go to college and they wouln't adjust my schedule so I had to resign. My cousin lives in NY. he is a pastor there. Pay is low in this small towmn but I do the best I can. I have to work 13 more hours unpaid to get my certificate. I have to get a paycheck with this company because they take the fee for my CPR certification out. It could take a couple months at this rate to get all of that. I can't get another job because I am on call. I do appreciate your advice. Best wishes, Michelle

Honey you might be better off working as a PCA or as a nurses aid in a nursing home... To work as a HHA in NY, I believe it is a 4-6 wk certification program and the starting wage is $10/hr. Most agencies will not only allow you to work as a PCA to get full time but also reimburse you for gas/mileage as well. I only say this because it sounds like you got a rotten deal with this particular agency - although I do not know the ins/outs of HHA certification in OH. As for the car situation, try: ways to work (link below) I would also suggest calling 2-1-1 ( free on your local phone) or logging on to 211.org I tried, but could not find the nearest city to you. For extra money, you might also want to try sitter city or care.com - both are online sites where people look for baby sitters or assistance to help with the elderly in their home or yours. Also check the links to soulight, lady christie, elaine, and ekikaseven on my homepage. All have a ton of information that can help.
